So you got stuck in the 90 miles of hell called Highway 1. I too
had my share of experiences with that road. My best one was
in an Air Force vehicle with a very large antenna sticking out
of the back of the truck. One of them snowbirds almost got it
in the windshield from the antenna. Seems he couldn't see the
red flag or flashing light on the end of it.
Did you by any chance take Card sound Road as part of your trip.
The far end of the road has some very quaint views just before you
cross
the intracoastal waterway.
|
Actually, it wasn't on Hwy 1, it was some dink on the Florida Turnpike
while I was between Miami and Orlando. A$$bag, pulled out in front of
me, speeds up to get next to an 18 wheeler then slows down and paces with
the friggin' truck!!! Why? Cause he's tired of people passing his lame
a$$? How is that my fault, oh well, the kids learned some new words,
actually they probably think Dad's an idiot cause I don't cuss in front
of them so I make up words.
I've never been on Card Sound Road, most of my time when I go there is
spent on the water. I have a friend who lives on a large boat down there
(full kitchen, fireplace, several guest cabins) so we stay on the boat
and hardly ever go onshore except to go out to eat once in a while. He
has a little boat he uses to commute to work and another I use to go out
and dive all day with it, the nice thing is he has about 20 air tanks so
I can spend about 6 to 8 hours diving and only have to resurface to
switch tanks. Then we go over to the North side of the Keys into the
mangroves and catch some lobster to steam up for dinner (and save the
body to use as chum the next day and draw in fish to look at). It was
nice I saw several Lemon Shark's and one Black Tip, I get more worried
about the Barracuda than the sharks honestly. I was able to teach my 4
year old how to snorkle a little and he did pretty good, I figure in
about a year he'll have it down. The only sad thing is all the damage to
the reef from the idiot's that don't know any better and the touch it,
which is killing alot of beautiful stuff.
But next time I go, if I get time I'll check it out.

That Spiny Lobster is very tasty. Filets from the smaller
barracuda, less than 2 ft long, are also very delicious.

congrats on the new job. Sorry its hell desk.

| Quote: | Well folks, I apologize for being a bit remiss in my posting and
abuse of lamers and braindumpers as of late.
I took a vacation for a while, it was good to get away from all the
nothing I was doing. Took the family unit to Key West. Man it was
nice to go diving again it had been so long and it was great.
And now that I have returned this week I got a job!!! What a pain
in the arse....but it's a hell desk job, which I wanted to avoid
but ya gotta start somewhere when your a 'career changer' I guess.
Seems no one wanted to give a break to a guy that's gotten his
MCSE, MCP, A+ and been working his own consulting jobs for 6 months.
So at least it's with a good big company and I'll have room to move up
the ladder, which is all I really want to be honest. It's not like I
was expecting to come into someplace and have the 'run' of their
entire system. I just needed the chance to get in the door to show 'em
my work ethic and the fact that I'm not a braindumping, lamedi@k,
practicer of osyack obchyaneeya. Now it's time to get it done, spend my
6 manditory months in this position (stupid company rules!!) and start
applying internally for low level Admin positions to get away from luser
calls. Luckily, I know someone who already works in this company so I
know they do promote internally and don't stick you at hell desk in
perpetuity.
But I wanted to let youse in the MCNGP know that I have not forgotten
my duties. Since I have a week till my start date at work (7/6), I
suspect this is because they didn't want to pay me for the 5th which
is a paid company holiday as the 4th falls on a Sunday this year (cheap
stinking Florida companies!!!), I will once again rachet up my abuse for
the week. Since I'm not gonna be able to post as much during business
hours starting next week.
So thanks for the support gentlemen, ladies and you other 'things',

I'd say congratulations, but I got my new job too after 6 months of
unemployment. They liked me so much they pushed through the paperwork to
make sure I was hired before the holiday.
University of Michigan.
Full paid health
Retirement plan matches 200% of whatever I contribute.
No dress code.
Computer to worker ratio of 4 computers per person.
Scientists, they fix all their own computers, including the 16 processor
Linux cluster.
And, I am the domain administrator.

Congrats on the yob man.

That's scary. I once was naive enough to think an MCSE would (by itself)
open up (better) doors. But alas, the cert has become an entry level
qualification. I do hire/fire of programmers where I work, and trust me,
many a dumbass has applied. The positions I hire for are entry level
but I could have easily required a MCAD or some other cert just to
pre-qualify the applicants. It's hard to find qualified individuals (and by
qualified I mean capable of leaning). I blame it on the decline of public
education and (although I grew up in front of one) TV. Or maybe MTV.
Whatever.
Congrats and good luck. I'm sure you'll be running the place in no time.
