well i dont have any problems with technology as such being a part of course
work... but it depends on the field of study.
i wouldnt want any companies IP to be standard material no matter how good
it is.
nah i dont have a master degree and not even thinking about a PhD. Plain
vanilla bachelor's degree and yes i did study computers and i used a whole
lot of Dos, a bit of unix and to a certain extent windows but that was later
on... programming languages (not dev tools) are a big part of any uni's
coursework and i wouldn't mind any one studying c or c++ or c# or java.
you do have financial sponsorship and uni's to a great extent do a lot of
work to generate revenue and in real world you have to use real languages.
so yes you would have some sort of bias.
that still doesnt mean its the end of the world... but i would keep things
just about there....

The day any Microsoft specific courses do indeed become
"standard material in all master and PhD degrees", will be
the end of the world for IT!
i am afraid it more than standard material.
and i want to ask, why you are very angry about this depite being true or
false. i was taking about testking.
you are very down on microsoft, but i have to tell you that microsoft and
may be 2 or 3 other companies in the world ,are shaping the way you live,
i think you have been laid off from Microsoft ,or other company because you
are not skilled enough with this material that will make the IT world come to
an end.

There is far more the software development than dot net or
any other vendor toolset or product. By all means allow an
elective programming language course (i.e. Java or C#) be
included, but not a full degree based around a single
vendors tools and products.
University studies should not become part of any companies
marketing division. There are already too many wannabe
idiots being churned out though their own certification
programs, without the infection spreading into university
education.
As for testking and the like of, well these appears to be
the type of "standard material" most people use to pass
these exams, which is why certification means so little. If
Microsoft really wanted to change things they would, they
don't so that's the end of it. One thing's for sure though,
university studies should not end up meaning as little of
these certs do.

I totally agree with you that any academic program, master or whatever,
mustn’t contain of solely manufacturer specific courses, but it would great
if you have some elective courses that are directly handling a definite
product, as at the end you have to see and experiment an implementation for a
theory that you learned through the academic curriculum.
As for myself I wouldn’t consider any academic program if it is biased
solely towards any manufacturers, and when I said “standard material” I meant
that in several universities there is this kind of courses-despite not
representing 100% of the curriculum-, and If It is not mentioned explicitly,
it might be a prerequisite for an academic course.
No one would go to Harvard and pay them 20,000 US$ to learn –solely- 70-305,
but it is no harm to see an implementation for a technology through the .NET
Framework.
Software development at the end, is an intellectual property and a separate
field of science, IT’S NOT AT ALL about following some procedures to get the
job done-import the System.IO class to write a file to the hard disk- there
are other skills that you won’t learn if you became only MCSD –through
testking or through real hands-on experience- and that is what the academic
programs for,
But it is a true also that this level of education-the manufacturer biased-
is required and is on demand to solve problems up to certain levels.
And for sure you won’t find a developer who is merely MCSD, writing the
software for the flight control program in F-16.
