Just wondering which might be a great book to pass this
exam. I see that Mike Gunderloy doesnt have one. I am a
programmer for 5 years and I have always worked with
Oracle, not sql server.

Hello,

Certainly one of the best.

MCDBA, MCSE, MCSD, MCAD Training Guide (70-229): SQL Server 2000 Database
Design and Implementation
ISBN : 0789729970

You can buy one using amazon.com

Regards

Cédric

IFAIK there isn't one (At least nothing in the
Gunderloy/Kalani class).

The cheap and cheerful way:

Arm yourself with the "skills being measured"
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-229.asp

and the code clinic links
http://www.codeclinic.com/70-229skills.htm

and do a brute-force study of the Books On-line (BOL)
SQL Server 2000 Books Online (Updated 2004)
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/productdoc/2000/books.asp

If you like a more linear approach, use:

Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming
by Robert Vieira
1440 pages
Publisher: Wrox; (November 15, 2000)
ISBN: 0764543792
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764543792
http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0764543792.html

or

Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (With CD-ROM)
by Kalen Delaney
1088 pages
Microsoft Press; Book & CD edition (November 15, 2000)
ISBN: 0735609985
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735609985
http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/4297.asp

Those two books may miss a few topics for the exam but tend
to go into more detail in general.

By all accounts this one isn't as complete or comprehensive
as Gunderloy/Kalani in their areas:

MCDBA, MCSE, MCSD, MCAD Training Guide (70-229):
SQL Server 2000 Database Design and Implementation
by Thomas Moore (Author), Ed Tittel (Author)
Edition: Paperback
Publisher: Que; (March 2003)
ISBN: 0789729970
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789729970

Otherwise check with
http://groups.google.com/groups?as_epq=70-229&safe=images&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_ugroup=microsoft.public.*&lr=&hl=en

Practice with:

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)
Release A
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=413744d1-a0bc-479f-bafa-e4b278eb9147&DisplayLang=en

or even better (if 120 days are enough)
SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Release A
(Protects Against the Slammer Worm)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=D20BA6E1-F44C-4781-A6BB-F60E02DC1335&displaylang=en

Or you could opt out and choose a different elective
entirely like 70-330/340.

I bought that book a couple of years back and thought it
was crap. Barely touched on even the basics.

More than likely because you knew the material already or,
because the exam is so easy, maybe you didn't.
