I guess you'd have to know something about that particular MCSD who is
working as a helper in Home Depot. Maybe it's the helper's problem.
But seriously...
Of all the companies I've ever worked at, only one ever mentioned Microsoft
certification. I think that most employers either aren't aware of Microsoft
certification, or don't understand it.
In any event, it doesn't matter what certifications you have if you can't
demonstrate well-developed skills. Apparently, from what I read on this NG,
it's possible to pass the certification tests just from study, without
having any relevant experience. If you presented your MCSD certificate to an
employer who understood what certification means, but you couldn't show real
experience or a well-rounded understanding of what you were supposed to
know, it should be no surprise if you don't get a job offer. It should also
be no surprise if you get the job and then later get fired for not knowing
your stuff.
On the other hand, it possible that if I liked the person I'd hire someone
who had the certification but no experience, but I'd hire him into a very
junior position and let him have an opportunity to prove himself. (or
herself)

If you read the other groups you'll get the general impression that this
person is trolling.

The 'problem' is that there is far more to IT than what is covered by
the MCSD cert or any other certification for that matter.
Any fool can become an MCSD, and yes that's microsoft's problem.
Unfortunately, too many of these fools, make it into tin pot companies
who are stupid enough to employ them, and that's an industry problem.

Or it could be neither.. I work for a herbicide company (Monsanto) and we
have a lab technician who is Office Certified. He did it on his own. Not
for work, but because it interested him.
