|

I've been working on a project for some time now to simulate a Cisco
router lab on a PC. Originally it was just so I could learn more about
the Cisco IOS, but it has progressed to allow a network simulation.
It currently doesn't support all IOS features, but I'm curious about how
many would be interested in such a piece of software.
If everything works out, I plan on selling this software, so I would also
like to know what such a piece of software would be worth. i.e. What
would you expect to pay or want to pay for such.
I'm open to questions and comments, anything.
Thanks for your time.

hi!.. well. it depends on what are the command which is supported...
if it does support all command to complete the cccp labs, i would think i
will buy it..
pricing is somehing very different. it depends on country ...
i'm from a 3rd world country.. i would pay something like USD40-50 for this
piece of software..
hope this helps!

Hi Sean,
Imagine you are not the first with this great idea, I friend of mine gave up
after 5000+ coding.
To have a decent router simulation of somthing like IOS12.0 you have sit for
few months and still you have to be able to sell it under 200 $ because a
2500 with ios 12.0 (A REAL ROUTER) costs somthing like this on ebay! (maybe
even cheaper if you are lucky.

Sure, but can a 2500 simulate 10 of itself?
I do believe that I am not the first with this idea. However I have been
working on it as a pet project for quite some time already.
The whole point would be to offer a complete LAB for the cost of one PIECE
of that lab. |

I would buy this software for $500 given:
(1) It offers COMPLETE IOs12.0 hopefully the T series for pppoe
commands too.
(2) Offers virtual NMs and WICs that are expensive like voice, ATM
(3) Offers at least the 1600 2500 and 2600 routers
(4) theres an easy way to visually wire the routers or if its text
mode, has intuitive config files.
(5) Is fast and has no latency running on a pentium 2 machine
(6) shows the same 'issues' with complex routing setups
(7) hopefully comes with binaries for solaris freebsd and linux, even
if its all text mode.
Hope this helps. Remember the single most important aspect is complete
ios 12.0 simulation, and if you can ever achieve that, might as well
work on a zebra-like daemon(www.zebra.org) and sell that for unix
machines. Youll earn more. |
