|
|
Hello, I am starting the first semester of the Cisco Networking
Academy for the CCNA this fall, and the instructor has not listed the
books yet. I really need to buy my books. I think the reason may be
because of the exam change, but I was wondering if anyone knew of the
books.
P.S. Please no flames about taking the academy. I do have lots of
experience, and I could probably pass the exam today, but this counts
towards my degree. Plus, the academy is extensive, and I will be
studying for CCNP and CCSP during this time as well.
Thanks,
Dustin

See some posts before this one : Wndell Odom.
Since I see you already have MCSA/MCSE I would not reccomend Todd
Lammle. At times it seems like it is targeted to newbies, and you
certainley are not. Reading Odom is a little bit of a dry read,
however his books are great. Find another source too.
Heck even Todd Lammle, even an older edition could work.
Get every minute you can of hands-on at the lab at the academy.
P.S. : flame because of the Academy ? Why ?
Rob.

I agree. Both is best. Odom is more authoritative and complete. Lammle is
handy to have around when I occaisionally get bogged down in Odom's wording
and explainations. It's always helpful to have a fresh perspective when you
get stuck. I also use it for additional problems and labs. I bought Lammle's
640-507 edition on closeout last year. You should be able to get 640-507 or
640-607 cheap right now.

The Academy is just switching over to Version 3 of the curricula to |
match the new exam. Prentice Hall no longer publishes version 2, and has
recently released the new versions of the textbooks which are in
bookstores now. Checkout:

I recommend the Companion Guide (all of the books are for CCNA 1 and 2),
and the Lab Guide. Your instructor may or may not require the
Engineering Journal (or the Lab Guide for that matter), but I feel that
they are important tools and worth the money.
