Hello,

I am going to start studying towards my CCNP, I have good experience
designing and configuring quite large 2900 based LANs.

I have two 2503 routers at home, which I used to aid my CCNA studies. First
which exam would you suggest I did first - switching - with my experience,
or - routing - with my routers.

Obviously I will need a better lab, are the 2500s good enough for the CCNP?
I know the functionality is limited, and with all the new 642 exams maybe I
require something more. I was considering buying a couple more 2500s from
Ebay to start with, and possibly a 3600 and a 2900 switch.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

The normal route here is routing, switching, remote access and
troubleshooting. Then do the CCDA and CCDP. Then have a think about CCIE.
That's what I did. Which of the two you take first depends on what you
fancy. If you work with switches a lot then the switching would be a good
starter to give you some confidence.

The 2500's are okay as long as you can get OSPF and BGP going on them. If
you have CCIE ambitions then you want to get the kit correct now so I'd can
the idea of the 2900 and get a 3550 instead.
Good luck,
Steve

Minimum three 2501 (or 2503) routers and two 2520 (or 2522) routers. You
will need IOS 12.1. or 12.2. Enterprise feature set. So, the routers must
have 16 Mb RAM and 16 Mb Flash. Use Cisco Press BSCI Exam Preparation Guide
by Catherine Paquet and Diane Teare with the above lab. BSCI should be your
first test.

Good luck!
