Hi,

the new firm I work for is asking me to register my certs (CCNA, CCNP) to
their name so that they can become cisco partners.

What would be the consequences for me ? What will happen if I leave the
company ?

thanks !
Stef

Stef,

That is what we all do. You are not registering your certs perse', your are
updating your personal profile and affiliating yourself with your employers
company. When and if you leave your present company you simply update your
profile.

I think the only time a cert is the property of the employer is when
you have to have an employer sponsor. Such as becoming a certified
trainer...

The certs belong to you. Even CCIE belongs to you. There is one big IF
though.

If you are a CCIE and your number gets used by your employer, if you leave
that company they can continue to use your number for six months. The new
place where you work CANNOT use your number for 12 months. This has
happened to me. A employer really liked me and wanted to take me on.
However, they could not use my number which is tied to my current employer.
I subsequently heard that they took on a real *** idiot since they
needed him for gold partner status and his number was free.

This is a real bastard since it has stopped the easy movement oif CCIE's
around firms.
