|

I am working on a hub and spoke topology consisting of 6 routers. The hub
router is a 3640 with 5 WIC-1DSU-T1 cards each with a direct feed, full T1
connected to it. The remote routers are all 2600's. 4 of the T1's are
working great. One of them, however is having issues. One the hub side of
this point to point T1, I get MASSIVE packet loss. Show interface s0/0 shows
input errors in the CRC, Frame, and Abort categories. There are no in or out
errors on the remote 2600. There are no output errors on the hub 3640. Only
those 3 input error categories. The T1 circuit has been tested again and
again and no problems have been found by the telco. I have tried a new WIC,
no luck. I also did a hard plug loopback test on the affected T1 interface,
and it passed no problem. So, I have a functional router, WIC, and a
"tested" T1 circuit. What in the hell could be wrong? The telco provides no
clocking on the t1's. The serial interface config on the hub router is:
conf t
int s0/0
ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x
no fair-que
service-module t1 clock source internal
thats it! If I clear counters, then run some tests, here come the
CRC/Frame/Abort errors! Some times more than at other times |

You threw up a hard loopback towards which side? It's time to divide
and conquer some more. You have other known good ckts and WICs. So
stick the "bad" T1 ckt into the known-good WIC. Also, you can take a
good T1 ckt into the suspect WIC.
Chances are, it's a bad ckt.
When you use pings to test, use 1472 data size with data patterns of
0x0000, 0x4040, and 0XFFFF.

I cut one end off a cable, and twisted together pairs 1 and 4 and pairs 2
and 5. I plugged the Rj45 end into the WIC that hosts the problem circuit
and did loopback tests. Was this not the correct method? Also, downtime is a
big problem for this place, so I only had 2 minutes with the router off. I
swapped WIC's from s0/0 and s0/1. The problem stayed on the circuit which is
plugged into s0/0. So I know the WIC is fine. I do need to do the 0x0404
ping, I forgot all about it. Will do tomorrow. Thanks hsb |

Hi,
How far is the router from the dmarc?
Have you tested/replaced the patch cords between the router and the dmarc?
How is the t1 provisioned?

The router is about 150- 200 feet from the demarc. All 5 T1 lines are like
this. 4 out of 5 run perfect. The T1 is full, and is a direct feed point to
point link between the two sites. I have not had an oppotunity to test the
cable between the 25 wire block next to the router and the demarc. Thanks
for the reply. |

"The router is about 150- 200 feet from the demarc."
First thing I would try is swap cables with another T and see if problem
moves.
