HI All

I was wondering if any of you guys have come across reverse telnet
problems with the 2511 access server?
Basically I have 8 devices connected and when I reverse telnet to them
all is OK, but on when I try and connect to a 2900 XL switch I get
this :
Termserver#telnet 192.168.1.1 2006
Trying 192.168.1.1, 2006 ......Open

And thats it, nothing else. No command prompt or anything comes up on
the screen

I have configured telnet connections as exactly the same as all my
other devices, I have IOS 12.0(5.2).

Any ideas ??
Cheers
Wallis

I assume a PC directly attached with Hyperterminal works fine. I can't
rember which but some switches want a straight connection. Take a
RJ45-female to RJ45-female connector and add a console cable to the mix on
this connection and see what happens.

If the configs are exactly the same (no exec, trans input all), then use
a cable from a connection that works (swap the two). This will rule out
the cable as the culprit.

Maybe someone put "no exec" on the switches console port?

I know this sounds funny, but hit enter when you see the

"Trying 192.168.1.1, 2006 ......Open "

I bet you'll be greeted with a prompt.

Marc,
I have experienced this issue, I have found that with some of the IOS
switches, by setting the modem DTR-active command on the line I can get them
to work correctly. Unflortunately this command does not work with the IOS
based routers, I usually set the modem host command with routers. I have
found that if I don't set the modem commands the routers logging to the
console can open the port preventing a reverse telnet in.(kind of
frustrating) If someone from Cisco could explain why the consoles behave
differently between the switches and routers, I'd appreciate it.
