Has anyone ever run into a situation like this?

I have taken over the responsibility of the network at one of our recently
acquired companies and it has several Cisco Catalyst 5000 switches. I can't
get console access into any of these switches and I can't figure out why!
It isn't my laptop because I use the same one to access all other Cisco
devices. It's just the switches. For what it's worth, here's the section
of the config that deals with console access:
set authentication login tacacs disable console
set authentication login tacacs disable telnet
set authentication enable tacacs disable console
set authentication enable tacacs disable telnet
set authentication login local enable console
--More--
set authentication login local enable telnet
set authentication enable local enable console
set authentication enable local enable telnet

I don't see anything wrong. Am I missing something? Any ideas? I would
greatly appreciate any assistance as I could be locked out of these switches
if I ever make a config mistake!

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Mike Gunn

Try changing all the "disable" to "enable".

I can't see anything wrong with those statements. Do you have "set pass"
and "set enablepass" statements as well? Are you prompted to login via
telnet? What does the switch do when you attempt to console in?

If these are Sup IIIs, you have to use a straight through cable.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try these tomorrow and post the results tomorrow

Still no luck. frown I tried a straight through and that didn't work. I've
been told to try a special RS-232 adapter. I'll be making one tomorrow.
That has to be it, since there isn't anything wrong with the configurations
(Cisco has verified that).

Wish me luck.
