Hi,

I have 2 2503's and a DTE/DCE DB60 crossover cable. How do I configure my
two s1 interfaces for Frame Relay. The notes I have just say that the
defaulkts will work so all I have is:

interface Serial1
ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
encapsulation frame-relay

This is the same on each router. (apart from ip address)

The following from sh int s1

Serial1 is up, line protocol is down
Hardware is HD64570
Internet address is 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255
Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)
LMI enq sent 25, LMI stat recvd 0, LMI upd recvd 0, DTE LMI down
LMI enq recvd 0, LMI stat sent 0, LMI upd sent 0
LMI DLCI 1023 LMI type is CISCO frame relay DTE
Broadcast queue 0/64, broadcasts sent/dropped 0/0, interface broadcasts 0
Last input never, output 0:04:05, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Output queue 0/40, 0 drops; input queue 0/75, 0 drops
5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants
0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort
27 packets output, 622 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 11 interface resets, 0 restarts
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
16 carrier transitions
DCD=up DSR=up DTR=up RTS=up CTS=up

What am I missing? Do I need to configure DLCI settings etc?

Cheers,
Jo

I had to use 3 routers to get a home FrameRelay setup working. Your
current setup will work for the 2 end routers. You need have a dual
interfaced router in the middle. That router acts like your frame
provider and handles clocking and a few other things. I'm at work and
don't have access to my cfg's at the moment. If no one comes up with
what you need by the end of the day I'll send you my CFGs

You will need to set the "clockrate" on the serial interfaces with the DCE
end of the cables.

That would be great! So the router in the middle has 2 DCE interfaces on it?
If I had another cable Id connect my 1601 and use that as an end router.

Ok off to Ebay....

there is a PDF file on the cisco web site that covers router to router using
frame relay.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/125/frbacktoback.html

you can do it fine with just to routers

Hi, Jo

There 's no FR switch in you config, so LMI cannot be used to discover the
DLCIs. Disable LMI and statically configure DLCI.

BTW, the same DLCI both sides since this connection is like a leased line

Hope it helps
