The drive is probably bad. Especially if your system won't boot until
you remove it from the bus. The drawer opening and closing means that
the drawer motor is running continuously. If that's the case then the
drive probably isn't initializing properly and is stuck in a loop or
possibly has a short somewhere in the motor circuit. I've had a couple
of Creative drives act the same way. Just to rule out software, or
virus, boot to a clean floppy and see if the drawer continues to be
possessed. If all else fails, I know a good Exorcist. :-)

ever have this problem? I am using windows XP. In order to get my PC to
start I had to unplug the CR RW drive. Should I buy another one? Or
maybe it's a software driver problem? I have not used the RW drive in a
while.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess they just are not built to last. But, I
will try to boot to a floppy first.

As Russ suggested first thing is run an up to date virus checker. Another
thing which could cause this is if one of the leaf switches is stuck either
open or closed.

Hi,
I ended up buying another CD RW drive. It installed really easily and is
working now. I spent 30 bucks (with a rebate) at tiger direct for another
one.
Thanks !
