I see 2 keys in your posts, that hint at whats going on, in your first post
you stated that this all started after installing Zone Alarm, then you said
it started after downloading and installing real player, then you went off
on possibly the video card, then in your last post you said that you stopped
the install of the SP mid way through, guess what, you have half an os that
cant talk to the other half because most os the api calls are not linked
anymore, and you want to blame the HDD, interesting, that is why when the
installer tells you that once you start installing a service pack you should
not interupt it for any reason, either your not giving the full picture or
there is more not being said, also you questianed the HDD size then state
that its a 120gig? what is on the drive? the os and what else?

Thanks for that.
Tried them, halfway through installing SP1, decided to reboot. Cant get
into
windows at all now. Blasted HDD, install process is a nightmare,
BSOD-"Probelm caused by ACPI.SYS, Page fault in non paged area, unable to
copy XXXXX.dll etc etc, the list goes on. I'm just wondering if this can
all
be down to bad memory, or a video card problem, i say the latter because
during boot to get to boot order you have to press F11 and the screen
flickers like mad, and the screen res isnt that good till you load the
driver which i did the first time i loaded XP, then as i said i staretd
getting the original problem. Thanks everyone,
Kevin

mine did the same thing--I rewrked the paging ile and it appears to have
fixed it. Go to Control Panel\system\advanced in the Performace
section
of
ADVANCED click the settings button then choose ADVANCE again look for
the
section titled Virtuual Memory and click CHANGE. Look at the radio
buttons
and choose "system managed size" and then click the SET button and
reboot.
This is how I fixed mine. And it appears to have done the job.

Hi everyone,
i am a quarter way through my A+ course, enjoying it alot. I have been
fixing PC's as a hobby for 10 yrs now, " my 1st hard drive was
210Mb!!!!"
Anyway, been getting more and more jobs from friends etc, which is
helping
my experience and course. But, i have just run into this problem on my
friends and i'm running out of ideas. It first started happening when
he
installed Z Alarm and some other stuff, so i thought as he wanted a
bigger
HDD replacing that may sort it out, installed new drive, O/S, programs
all
went well, phonecall few hours later its back!! Heres the specs: 1.9
AMD
512Mb, 120Gb HDD, XP Home, Radeon GFX. He said he sends the error
report,
but as usual there is no remedy. Heres the Error:

C:\windows\minidump\mini 071803-09.dmp

C:\docume~ / steve~ /locals~ / temp \WER.tmp. dir001\sysdata.xml

Then we get an error signature BC Code: 7F BCPI: 00000 ETC ETC!!!!
He said it happened after he downloaded realplayer today.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Kevin
