What is the best way to keep your skills and certs that you currently hold
up to date, if you're not currently working in IT? Can anyone recommend any
good mags or resources to do this? Thanks.

Sorry for the half-joking reply, but win a lot of money so you don't
have to work, and miss a lot of sleep comes to mind. :-)

Keep an eye on techie news via Slashdot.org, ArsTechnica.com, and
HardOCP.com. There are plenty of other sources--find some you like and
trust, bookmark them, and visit regularly.

In the realm of printed matter, check out Maximum PC (subtitle:
Minimum BS). It's a good source of PC tech info, it keeps you on top
of what's new and hot, and best of all, it's not boring. No
affiliation, but it's considered required reading around here.

Another vote for MaximumPC here. I've been a subscriber since it was
called Boot. A great tech mag with attitude.

As for online, check out: www.windowsbbs.com
A helpful support board with friendly, knowledgeable people.

You might want to check out their Mother site, too:
www.windows-help.net

And, of course, read and play with anything else tech that happens to
come your way.
