|
|
I have an Iwill KK266Plus motherboard with the latest BIOS update
(2/27/2002). I'm running WinME and Win2K Pro in a dual boot
configuration (separate partitions for each OS). I'm having the
following problem when in either OS so I'm suspecting a hardware
problem. Read on....
This MB has two USB 1.1 ports on the back panel which work fine (for the
most part, that is).
There is also a header connector inside for connecting 2 more USB ports.
In the BIOS setup there is a selection for either enabling/disabling
USB0 and USB1. It appears that USB0 is the dual port connection on the
back panel and USB1 is the internal "header" connector. The motherboard
stenciling confirms this.
Devices plugged into USB0 (the back panel) work fine. I've used a Fuji
USB drive and a USB camera for testing.
Devices plugged into USB1 aren't getting any power. I have double
checked the pinouts and even tested the cable for continuity whith an
ohmmeter, all is as it should be but no power to the devices.
The devices appear under Device Manager without any problems indicated.
Attempts to connect to the Iwill tech support site have been fruitless.
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting/diagnostic tools etc?????
Thanks in advance!!
John

I have the manual and have looked the motherboard over very carefully.
The only place to enable/disable the USB ports is in the CMOS setup.
USB0 is the port on the back of the motherboard (next to the keyboard
and PS/2 mouse ports.
USB1 is the internal "header" connector.
USB0 works fine, USB1 doesn't.
Anyone aware of any USB diagnostic hardware and/or software
(reasonably priced).

unless you have some dodgy usb headers, which is unlikley
the headers are normaly
+5v
-Data
+Data
Ground
and thats it, suppose you could cheat and bit and wire the +5v to a molex,
just make sure it's +5v, and not 12v, this post is off the top of my head... |

The USB headers are standard, just like you quote above.
I *have* thought about what you suggested.
I suppose a powered USB hub would work as well too........
I was just trying to get the front panel USB ports working, they're much
more convenient than reaching around the back.....
