Hi,

For some reason, Windows XP Professional can not detect my wireless network
when the WAP Router does not broadcast its SSID. As soon as I enable SSID
broadcasting from another computer, the XP Prof machine will "detect" the
network and be able to connect. However, since I am located in an office
park, there are numerous wirless networks around and I do not want my SSID
to be visible to any other networks. Is there a particular setting I have
overlooked.

The WAP Router is from Linksys and the wireless USB adapter as well.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated,

Amongst other things, make sure that Windows XP is NOT set to manage the
wireless connection and the do all the SSID and WEP configuring with the
utils that came with the USB adapter instead. When XP manages things,
wireless LAN adaptors tend to have problems latching on to the wireless
network.

Further to previous, a recently issued MS patch can cause wireless
disconnects on certain adapters:

MS WPA patch Q815485 causes the problem - see:

Thanks for the feedback,

However, I was unable to get the Linksys adapter to work properly. When I
switched it with an adapter from D-Link and unchecked the "Let Windows
configure my wireless network automatically", the network was detected fine
even with SSID broadcasting off. Apparently the Linksys adapter does not
detect a wireless network (running XP) when SSID broadcasting is turned off
the WAP.
