Any answers? Freeware?

Check your connection properties / modem settings. It may be set to
disconnect after a set period of inactivity.
Or the problem may be your phone line. If there is enough static on the
line, it will cause a dropped connection.
Or it may be your modem. Had any thunderstorms lately? Was your modem
plugged into the phone line at the time? If so you modem may have been
damaged. If the modem was plugged into the phone line during a
thunderstorm, the modem can be damaged even if the computer is turned off
and unplugged from the electrical outlet. If the computer was on and
connected to the internet, it is even more vulnerable.
