|

I was able to successfully backup one of my hard drives onto a CD-R with the
Norton Ghost. However, when I then went to the Restore procedure I've run
into a problem where it says to type in an "image file name". Everytime I
type in something it keep saying to choose a valid Ghost image but I don't
know to create this. Does it involve making a new folder and assigning it a
name? The Browse button is next to the open space for this but that didn't
help either.
I'd appreciate the assistance of anyone who's done this.

You shouldn't have type anything. Just choose your ghost image from the
CD you burnt it to. If the cd drive isn't showing up then you probably
didn't build a ghost CD capable boot disk.

If the Ghost image you burnt to the CD is valid, as you say it is, you
shouldn't have any problem using the Browse button and selecting it, in your
CD drive of course.
I'm assuming that what you say is true and that the Ghost image is indeed
valid.
Your backup *is* the Ghost image, you should not need to type anything.
Thus the answer to your question:
"Does it involve making a new folder and assigning it a name?"
is no.
Good luck.

Mark - Pikoro hit it on the head. I think perhaps your image was not
successful. |

Russ--
I agree though you wouldn't know that since the backup was indicated as
being successful. But even an uninstallation and reinstallation of the
System Works 2003 didn't change a thing. Looks like I gotta call 'em.

Usually a backup does not fit in a CD, you need more than that to backup a
system partition, even using maximum compression. Let's not even mention a
full backup.
This is why I don't think that you have a valid Ghost image, that is the
essence of your problem.
This issue has already been discussed, it is not recommended to burn a CD
with the Norton Ghost utility, the way to go is to create the Ghost image
file on a partition or HDD and then burn it to CDs using Easy CD or other
burning program that will split your file onto several CDs.
Hope this helps.
