|
|
Hi everyone,
just rebuilt an old machine: AMD 900,160mb, M/B MS6378.
It has onboard sound-AC97, did have Creative sound PCI which i removed to
use on something else. Its all ok apart from 98 keeps detecting it at start
up. Have looked in BIOS legacy audio is enabled. Have now disabled the PCI
device, but would like to know if theres a way to get rid of the detection
and enable the onboard sound.
Thanks alot,
Kev |

Check Autoexec and Config.sys, Creative can and usually does put lines in
both

The old card is still in the list of PCI devices in the registry. Win98 |
reads that
when it boots and is too dumb to detect that the physical device is no
longer
present. Try booting into Safe Mode, go into device manager and remove the
sound card from there. That should remove its registry entry. If that
doesn't
work you could edit the registry manually but the usual dire warnings apply! |

Thanks for John,
tried safe mode, no dice. Used regedit, but not to familiar with it, had a
look around HKEY etc etc but not sure where it would be??
Thanks,
Kevin

Hmm...maybe try this...rename detlog.txt from the root
directory, then reboot. This should then cause the WIN98
machine to go through and look again at ALL you hardware, and
physically look at the drivers.
( I know it worked on win 95 ). |

In Device Manager did you click View, then Show hidden devices?
