I have a server running windows 2003 server standard edition with sp1.
When a user's home folder is compressed it takes up MORE space in the
"Amount Used" column of disk quota entries for the user. When the folder is
not compressed the number in the "Amount Used" column goes down. I can have
a user taking up x amount in disk quota. I compress their files and thier
disk quota usage goes up. I have been reading where compression is not
supposed to change the users quota for the 2000 environment. Did this change
for 2003 server or am I misreading something because I would expect to see
the user's quota usage to be less after compressing the files.
Thanks.

There is no change from Win2k in how size is calculated for quota purposes
in Windows Server 2003 or R2 - this value is not reduced by compressing
files. See:

http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/Library/b2c8eae3-d709-4138-9f

Under some circumstances the 'size' value may actually be larger after
compression:
