The issue we are talking about is: "The Group Policy Client-Side Extension
Microsoft Disk Quota Failed to execute" Event ID 1085 appears for every five
minutes in the Event Viewer.

Steps to resolve this situation....special thanks to Anita Ratley from
Microsoft for her tireless efforts on this issue.

1. Create a new policy call Disk Quota Policy

2. Edit the policy and navigate to the following: Computer Configuration \
Administrative Templates \ System \ Disk Quotas

3. Double click the following polices below and check the Disabled option:

- Enable disk quotas

- Enforce disk quota limit

4. Once disabled, click Apply and exit the policy.

5. If you are using GPMC, link the policy to the OU containing the users
receiving the error or link it the Domain. If you are using Group Policy
Object Editor, right click the correct OU and create the policy.

6. On XP/2000 client machines, run the GPUPDATE /Force command or restart
the client.

7. Reboot the Domain Controller.

NOTE: If you have multiple DCs, you will have to verify that the policy is
pushed down to the remaining domain controllers.

To determine if the policy is in effect, from Start / Run, type in RSOP.MSC
and expand the policy setting: Computer Configuration \ Administrative
Templates \ System \ Disk Quotas. If you don't see Administrative Templates
or System, it means the policy is not getting applied to that machine. If
that's the case, verify that the machine is located in an OU affected by the
policy.

Here is an article that talks about troubleshooting group policy errors:

I'm not seeing what this is in response to but if you're interested in
sharing such an answer then there's a really good place to include this at:

http://www.eventid.net

I'm not sure if you'd have to register to actually submit it. I get an
account paid for from them for being an MVP so I suppose I could poke the
information in there for you but I'd never want to take credit for anyone
else's work and I'm not sure what this is about so you'd want to go ahead
and enter it in yourself. If you don't have to be a paid member then you can
go ahead and share the information with them. If you do have to - and the
information is correct - then you can PROBABLY either contact them through
the page and ask them to include it or you can perhaps ask one of the MVPs
who have access to the paid account who might know what you're responding to
if they'll share the information with them.

Hi Galen,

I have seen this and other variations of hte same problem posted quite often
and never with a satisfactor result. I know a lot of us use Google Groups to
search messages when trouble strikes for possible solutions thus my posting.

Your right though. I will look into also posting this to places like
eventid.net

I don't have a way to create the account without paying for one. When
submitting the entry just be sure to credit Anita Ratley from Microsoft for
the solution.

Well if I can keep one person from going through the literal hell I did to
resolve it that will be great.
