We have a terminal server that we need to move the user profiles from
c:\documents and settings\ to preferably e:\documents and settings\. Go in
to the system properties, advanced tab, to user profiles and selecting Copy
To merely copies the profile to the specified location. It does not move the
profile, and if you delete the profile from c:\documents and settings, as
soon as you login again, windows creates a profile from scratch in
c:\documents and settings\. Also, Users have Outlook\Exchange running in
cached mode that sticks the .ost in their profile. The server has a 20gb c:
with 1.48gb free and a 117gb (116gb free) e:. It is a windows 2003 standard.
Is there a way to relocate the user profiles? |

The function you used is intended to make a copy of a particular
profile folder so that a different user can use the same profile. It
is not meant to move the location of a profile folder.
To relocate a profile folder, you must do this:
1. Reboot the machine to unlock all locked files.
2. Log on as administrator.
3. Use the above function to copy the profile folder to the
desired location on drive E:.
4. Modify this registry value to reflect the change made in Step 3:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList |
