Trust relationship & Domain migration with same Netbios name

I have a Windows 2000 forest and a Windows 2003 forest with the same
domain NETBIOS name. The FQDN is different between the two. I am
migrating (via ADMT) both user and computers from the Windows 2000
forest into the 2003 forest. As such,

1. Do I need to rename the netbios name of the WIndows 2000 domain in
order to create the trust? If not, are there any special workarounds?
2. If I rename a NETBIOS domain name, will it have any effect on the
workstation profiles?

Any insight would be most appreciated.
