Cisco IPS 4200 series -- Configuration

Hi,

My name is Pratap Ramamurthy and I am a student in Univ. of Wisconsin,
Madison. We are trying to test one cisco's IPSs (4255 sensor).

I am unable to decide the kind of configuration to use to simulate a
near-real-life setup. So I ask any of you out there who have ever used
the 4200 series to let me know as to whether I should be using the
default configuration( many signatures are disabled/retired by default
and blocks too much traffic) or some kind of variation of the
signatures.
