All - Currently, we use Backup Exec 9.1 in 2 sites. Site 1 has 3 server,
Exchange, SQL and Files. Site 2 has 2 servers, Exchange, SQL & Files. All
servers are 2003 standard and the latest SQL and Exchange. There is not a
full time IT staff watching backups. I currently manage IT as a "third hat"
and don't have the time to spend that I should. Of course, it is ok now but
when something goes wrong and I am out of town....

We are considering upgrading our backup solution and I looked into Backup
Exec 10 and found that they recommend running it on a standalone backup
server. Thought I would research other backup options outside of the
standard Windows Backup software.

What do you use or recommend?

Thanks,

how upgrading Backup Exec 9.1 to 10 will help you in case of "something goes
wrong and I am out of town...." ?

Backup Exec is graet software, i was working with the software for version
7.3 to 10.
Now i'm working with old Arcserve 2000 but i tested Arcserve 11.5 and it's
good too.

It won't help if something goes wrong; I just need something that once
configured, is more hands off than hands on...

Thanks for the feedback.

Brian

BackupExec is a good product.. I used it up to 10, then we switched to
NetBackup. it is pretty hands off for the most part and you can easily
delegate rotating tapes as needed..

I used Arcserve when we had a smaller number of servers (about what you
have) and it worked okay, but their tech support is bad. Veritas tech
support has put them to shame in my experience.

Used to be true but since Symantec took over Veritas the support is crap.
REALLY bad and I have been a Veritas user for about 7 years.

However, the product is still great.

Any Arcserve v11 experts out there? I am running CA Arcserve v11 on a
windows server 2003 environment and I get a crashed backup every single
time,
no error messages. I have reinstalled the software and checked all the
services. Anyone has any idea?
