Hello all

I have taken 3 MCSD exams and I'm going for the 4th next week.

I have used the MS Press self-paced books, but I have also looked for other
information on the internet: msdn articles, study guides, discussion groups
and practice tests.

The practice tests I have found (always for free -- I never paid for
anything) were useful because they made me research answers I did not
understand (they were often wrong). Very few of the questions I saw in this
practice tests appeared in the real exams (although similar questions
appeared).

So, what are these "practice tests" freely available? Are these what you
call braindumps (real tests reconstructed from memory)? Your opinions are
appreciated.

Hi cbm,

IMO, a "Practice Test" is a test that is specially designed by a team
of experts and modeled on the Real test. It covers all the topics
mentioned in the syllabus of the test, and provides you with a good
test taking experience, as well as trains your mind to think quickly
and logically evaluate questions. More importantly, it helps you
identify your weak and strong areas, and then work on them. There are
some good sites which might be offering good quality Practice tests,
but AFAIK, none of them does it free.

A "Brain dump" however is used to describe a set of questions that are
revealed after giving the exam, or by gaining illegal access to actual
exam questions. Thus, they violate the Certification Provider's
Non-Disclosure agreement.

Most sites like TestKing claim to sell Practice Tests, but reportedly
are selling Brain dumps.

I have now completed my MCSD.NET, and personally I found the practice
tests in Que books the most helpful. My ADO.NET was relatively weak,
and I was able to identify that and work hard on it. I did not need any
other practice tests.

HTH,

Regards,

Cerebrus.
