|

Hello,
I have two domains a.test.com and b.test.com. I want to create the domain
test.com and establish a parent-child trust relationship.
I have created the domain test.com, but the relationship hasn't
materialised. How can I get this to function?

Hi
Parent-child Trusts are implicity created (Automatically), two way direction
and they are transitive.
Create the the domain tree, and all childs of that domain will have
automatically parent child trust created.

I hop that helps

I'm not sure if I understand this definition. How many forest do you have?
I get the feeling from the definition there is more than one forest
involved.

Hello,
I have two forests, which need to be joined by a parent DC at test.com. It
is possible for me to perform a dcpromo on the child domains so that they
will recognise the parent domain, but I can't find any other way which is
less destructive.

Hi
Between forests you have 2 options:
- Forest Trust (Windows 2003 FFL required)
(Transitive, one or two way direction)
- External Trust
(Non Transitive, one or two way direction)

you cannot merge the forests into another one...
either use external or forest trust (only with w2k3) or migrate the two
domains into a new forest/domain

Thank you all for your help. I will perform the following to resolve this
issue:
1) use ADMT to move a.test.com and b.test.com forest obects to test.com
2) use dcpromo twice on the a.test.com and b.test.com DCs to demote them -
then promote them to child domains within the test.com forest
3) use ADMT to move the a.test.com and b.test.com objects back where necessary

why not just keep one domain instead of adding two additional child domains?
What is/are THE REASON(S) for having child domains?
