I want to do force removal of one DC in Windows 2003 R2 in my domain.. Kinda
of last resort. and will do metadata cleanup later on.
Is it safe to run dcpromo /forceremoval on Windows 2000/R2 conencted to
production? there is a warning and I'm not sure about it.
or better to bring it up in a Private network?? Might damage and remove my
DNS AD intergrated ad propagate to my working DC.. please if you can clarify
if safe or not. It is my first time to do forceremoval using Windows 2003 R2 |

This kind of action must be done in the production environment. The other
DCs must "know" that one of them was demoted and AD must be updated. if you
are not sure about the warning, post it here.

Before demoting the DC, backup the System State of Domain Controllers. This
will also backup the AD database, giving you the opportunity to restore
everything in case of disaster. In this case, remember that you must perform
an Authoritative Restore; see also:

The FORCEREMOVAL switch just demotes the DC without contacting other DCs.
Because of that you NEED to clean the metadata of the DC that was force
demoted yourself.
what is the error/message?
