Is mixing the type of operating system (standard and enterprise edition) on
the domain controllers running active directory within a forest/domain
supported by Microsoft? Any issues encountered attributed to this that are
of note?
Thanks |

yes, that is the supported.
The difference in editions used depends on what features you need on each
DC. See the MS site for the difference in editions

No issues at all. Go ahead & set it up.

None that I've seen.... Our network was originally set up (2 servers)
with W2K Advanced Server. I've since installed almost a dozen W2K
Standard Server with no problems. Briefly had different OS on our DCs.

Hi
The Windows Server 2003 Family
There are four versions of Windows Server 2003:Web Edition, Standard
Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Datacenter Edition.
Web Edition is used as a Web server only. It supports up to two processors
and 2GB of RAM.
Standard Edition is typically used as a domain controller, file and print
server, or application server. It supports up to four processors and 4GB of
RAM.
Enterprise Edition can fulfill all the same roles as Standard Edition, but
it also supports clustering. Use Enterprise Edition when you need more
scalability and reliability than what is offered in Standard Edition.
Enterprise Edition supports up to eight processors and 32GB of RAM.
Datacenter Edition supports all of the features included with Standard
Edition and Enterprise Edition. However, it supports much more powerful
hardware. It supports up to 32 processors and 64GB of RAM. Use Datacenter
Edition when you need the most machine power possible.

I hop that helps
