Hi!

I am trying to add a second branch server to an existing domain. The first
server (Main_server) is a W2k server. The second server I am trying to add is
a W2003 server R2 (Main_server2). I tried to add active dir on the new server
by using DCPROMO. It did not complete. Told me I had to run Adprep. My
question is: Do I need to run ADPREP /forest or do I need to just run ADPREP
/domain? Since there is only one DC my guess is I just need to run ADPREP
/domain. Is that correct? Is there anything else or any pitfalls to watch out
for?

Thanks for any and all helP!

you are right.

u r trying to setup a 2003 Dc in a 2000 based domain. Thus the schema of
2000 domain needs to be upgraded before u add 2003 Dc.

to introduce a w2k3 R2 DC in a w2k based forest...

you need to:
* ADPREP /FORESTPREP
* ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP

however, if you have exchange 2000, make sure you fix the schema FIRST!

see:
http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/archive/2005/11/19/110.aspx (also
applies to w2k3 R2)
