|
|
I currently have a client with running 1 2K server and AD 2000 (no exchange).
I have already upgraded the AD to 2003 and I am ready to place the
preinstalled SBS 2003 on the network. I have now read that I am unable to
perform this operation and must use dcpromo.exe. My question is, can I run
the dcpromo.exe and role back the SBS 2003 then follow the whitepapers and
rerun the SBS server setup when I am done. Will this create any problems?
WIll I lose my settings?
Any sugestions?

This is really more of a question for the SBS newsgroup, you will have better
luck there.
From an AD standpoint though, anything done on the SBS box in AD such as
creating users, groups GPOs, etc will be lost when demoting it. When
promoting it into your existing domain, the users from there will replicate
in.
You must transfer the FSMO roles to the SBS box or it will shut itself down
after about an hour.
Here's a good article about it all:

Server 2003 in an existing Active Directory domain
