I have a Windows 2003 Server which has the following issue since the
single session install of KB890830, Intel Pro/1000 MT Dual Port update
and updates to the motherboard (SHG2-Intel) Network interface cards PCI
Intel 82550PM and PCI-X Intel 82544GC.
This box (Is a member server) host our SQL 2000 and ERP application.
The original platform was server 2000 and the box was upgrade (not
fresh install) to server 2003.
Symptoms- After you try to log on using a valid user name/password, the
"Loading your personal settings" dialog box splashes, followed by
"Saving your settings" and then the "Welcome to Windows" logon
screen. A brief splash of the desktop wallpaper will post before
"Saving your settings". Note: The "Shutdown" button is disabled
on the "Welcome to Windows" logon screen.
Note: The SQL, Shares, etc all seem to be functioning correctly and
available for client use.
Resolution attempts
I tried booting to safe mode (w/network) but the login issue persists.
I tried powering down and restarting.
I tried using a fresh user account.
I tried the "net use \\remote_machine\IPC$ password:*" then
Regedit, Network Connect.
The remote registry loads but I get a "cannot open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: Error while opening key." Post when I try to
drill.
Note: The "HKEY_USERS" branches are available.
I tried to remote Event Viewer but access is denied.
I would appreciate any insight or help you have to offer.
Thank You |
