Hi,

I recently did an in-place upgrade from NT4 of our "test" network through
Virtual Server 2005, ever since the upgrade, I can no longer access event
logs other than security logs on any DC's. It seems to be permission
related?

The test network consists:

2 DC's -> one upgraded from NT4 PDC to W2K3 R2, the other is a fresh W2K R2
install promoted to a DC. Applied NT4Emulator registry entry so they'll
still talk to NT4 BDC

1 NT4 BDC -> confirmed it's still talking to W2K3 DC's

W2K, WXP Pro, Win98 clients all joined to the domain

I also have a problem with DNS where the clients take forever to update the
DNS server for forward and reverse zone record. I can't see the event log
so I'm not sure what's going on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I may have an explanation about the DNS record. I set up the DNS server
with secure updates only. I had to change it to allow "secure" and
"non-secure" updates. I guess this is because of the NT4Emulator registry
change? Once I have all DC's upgraded to 2003, I can just take out the
NT4Emulator key from all DC's and I should be able to use "secure" DNS
updates?

Can you please confirm if this is the case.

Thanks.

Found the problem, the "Administrator" account in the domain is also in
"Users" group. Took out from "Users" group and all is well.
