Ok recently all the network mapping in the domain have switched to the old
NT4 %HOMESHARE% %HOMEPATH% style

for example if i typed in pushd \\servername\Share$\Foldername it will map
it has
xdisgusted been \\servername\share$ rather then the whole path.

It has all of sudden been doing this, properly in the last month, which was
also roughly when a our last 2000 DC was remove from the Domain (All other
DCs are 2003 in 2000 Naqtive Mode)

I have placed a GPO that applies a disabled setting to
System\Profile\Connect Home Directory to the Root Share.

I am assuming that this would not need to be applied because XP would
automatically use the 2000 style.

Before i applied the GPO i did a RSOP and it return the no entry for the
policy which say it should of been mapping based on 2000 standards.

Any solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated as it is causing
havoc with our home drives.

Make sure that the Connect Home Directory to the Root Share Policy Setting
is not defined.

Use gpupdate /force to enforce the policy on the client.

Ok, it seems that the policy is working, the question is

IS the /HOME switch meant to map the path in the Old NT way or is it
suppose to map in the 2000 way becuase when i use it does it the old NT way
but when i check the %HOMESHARE% variable it is in the 2000 way.

Ok, the whole issue is in the fact that when user's log on some of the users
are not getting the correct Home variables.

I have modified the logon script so it logs the details for me here are
examples of what i am talking about.

the data is in the order of
%HOMEDRIVE%,%HOMESHARE%,%HOMEPATH%,%ComputerName%,%LOGONSERVER%,%Time%
C:,\\Academic2\Students$,\Documents and Settings\michaeldu,CR221,\\SCHEMA2,
9:29:33.56
H:,\\Academic2\Students$,\2005\MICHAELC,CR206,\\NAS2K3, 9:36:20.67
H:,\\Academic2\Students$,\2007\BYRONDE,CR219,\\MUSAVUS, 9:38:14.95

When i check the user's they are fine, the home paths are mapped properly
and when i check the policy that are applied the "System\Profile\Connect Home
Directory to the Root Share." is set to disabled.

The DC is not logging any errors neither is the GPOs. I really need to sort
this problem out but i don't know where to go next. My boss wants to go back
to indivual shares but i would rather not if i don't have to. And they really
shouldn't have to have any need to have single shares anyway.
