|
|
Hi, I have two Domains, one with windows 2000 server as DC, and second
with windows 2003 server as DC, with wrong dns suffix like a
computer.domain. It is possible to add domain suffix without recreating
all domain, and disjoining all computers on domain.

Is it a wrong suffix or is it actually a single-label AD DNS Domain name?

So, you are saying that it is not just the suffix, but the DNS name of the
domain according to ADU&C is domain, instead of something like domain.com?
At this juncture you have but two choices. One, which would probably be the
easiest to succeed, provided the domain is still in mixed mode, is to
introduce a new NT4 BDC, make it a PDC, upgrade it using the new domain name
as described in this article:
How to rename the DNS name of a Windows 2000 domain:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292541/en-us
Two, is to upgrade all DCs to Win2k3, raise the Functional level of the
forest to Windows Server 2003 Functional level, then use rendom.exe to
rename the domain.
