Hi,

I've just added a new subnet to our network and have just built a new DC
there. AD placed the new DC in one of the existing remote office sites (
which I don't know why ) Now, I would like to create a new site in AD for
this subnet but I'm having problem. When I try to add a new site in Active
Directory Sites and Services, I am asked to select at least two Site Links
but I don't have any site links listed for this new subnet. When I go to add
a new site link, it asks me to select two sites but I don't have a site for
the new subnet. What am I doing wrong? is there a way to create a new site
and move my new DC to the new site? Please help!

Create a new site, select the default-first-site-link, or an other site
link. Create the subnets you want to assign the site.

Move the domain controller to the new site, if you have changed TCP/IP
settings run nltest /dsregdns to ensure that IP addresses are updated in
DNS.

This happens when you setup the server with the ipaddress that belongs to
the subnet that was already defined in that site, or the server was moved to
the DefaultFirstdefaultsite (something like that).

- Each site link must have at least to Sites. You don't relate IPSitelinks
with Subnets... you relate subnets with Sites.

*Each Site must have 1 or more Subnets.
*Each Site Link must have at least to Sites (This is only different if you
have only one domain).
*Each Site Link Bridge must have at least 2 Site Links.

Assuming that your server has already the new ipaddress regarding to the new
sie:

Create the new site, Create and associate a Subnet with that Site, move the
server to the new site, make it a GC under the NTDS Settings "optional".
If you only have 2 sites, there's no need to change the default sit link
configuration.

I hop that helps

Because the subnet used by the server that you promoted to a DC wasn't
listed in the subnets container, AD located any DC and used that as its
initial replication partner. Because of this, it also creates the server
object for the new DC in that site.
