|

I want my win2003 sp1 DC (DHCP\DNS server also) to respond (UNC requests)
from XP clients to it's existing name and to the name of a decommisioned
win2000 server. I have had some replies about:
disabling 'strictnamechecking' registry keys and adding a CNAMES vaues
also about:
adding the old server name in 'optionalnames' registry keys and adding a
DNS entry.
i have read conflicting opinion about win2003 sp1 support for these 2
things, whether they work at all\cause kerberos errors\erratic responses to
requests etc. Can anyone give me concrete advice on which will work for my
setup!? |

Hi
Make sure that you removed all references (including DNS, Srv records NS
records) to the Demoted server.
Then all you need is to create manually a New Host (A) record, AND /OR a PTR
Record, with the name of that failed DC, CNAME are used to map, generally 2
or more different A records.

I hop that helps
Good Luck

No, you also need to disable StrictNameChecking. Otherwise Kerberos won't
work.
OptionalNames is for NT systems. OptionalNames breaks Kerberos too.
Use (disable) StrictNameChecking and add a CNAME or A record.
