That makes me MCPD: EAD. It has a nice ring to it, a nice LONG ring.

The new exams seem a little tougher than the MCSD.NET exams were. All in
all though, they weren't that hard.

Practical experience was my main source of preparation. I also used the
MeasureUp practice test for Exam 70-529 (since they didn't have one yet for
70-554 or 70-549). The practice test was very good. It pointed out a few
areas that I needed to study up on.

Next exams on my to-do list are:
70-291
70-441
70-442
70-447

Congrats.
I wonder if you took the 2 upgrade exams - 553 and 554 to upgrade from
MCSD .Net to MCPD:EAD?

Regards,
Andy

Not necessarily. It was suggested at
http://vishaljoshi.blogspot.com/2006/04/dynamics-of-vs-2005-upgrade-exams.html
that MCPD:EAD with 551, 552, 554 is better than the microsoft suggested
upgrade of 553 and 554.

Supposedly just 553 and 554 won't include MCPD:Web or MCPD:Win.

Of course this contradicts
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-553.asp where it mentions
that 553 earns credit towards MCTS:Web and MCTS:Win.
But, hey, it never hurts to check it out with someone who earned a
MCPD:EAD before taking the first upgrade exam.

Regards,
Andy

I believe 70-553,70-554,70-547,70-548 is an easier way to go (four
exams but less material in the latter two compared to 70-551 and
70-552)

Have done 70-553 and 70-548 sofar myself.

The 553 and 554 combo get you the following:
MCTS: Win
MCTS: Web
MCTS: Enterprise
MCPD: EAD

You don't get MCPD: Web or MCPD: Win. But why would you want those if you
have MCPD: EAD. MCPD: Win and Web means you can work with those, and only
those technologies. MCPD: EAD says you can work with Web, Win, Remoting,
Web Services, COM+ etc...

Yep. I don't see any reason people would take additional tests to get the
lower tier certs (MCPD: Web & Win). I say, just go for the premier
developer certification directly.

No, I don't. EAD encompasses both Web and Win by definition. Microsoft
needed to have a MCPD level certification for people who only work with Web
or Win technologies. That's what the lower MCPD certs are for.

Besides, by obtaining the MCPD: EAD, you already get 4 certificates. If you
also got the lower two MCPD certificates, that would be 6 pieces of paper.
I've only got so much room on my office walls.

Thanks, I'll take the 2 upgrade exams 553, 554 later this year.

However, I also think there is a little shadow of doubt and confusion
over whether MCPD:EAD truly emcompasses both MCPD web and win.
It can be argued that upgrade path to EAD is missing the test for
"designing and implementing web/win app" skillsets. Of course, the
counter argument is that EAD tests for "designing and implementing
enterprise app" skillset which is a superset of the win/web skillset.

Ah well, that is still not going to put me off getting just the
MCPD:EAD.
