I am much puzzled and have been surfing for quite some time to get some
good questions for 220-301 A+ certification exam. I had seen some brain
dumps, but the questions were abrupt and could not get some
satisfactory explanations for each answer. Since practice is the only
key to triumph so some good questions will help me to develop some
ideas. Specially some good simulations will also help to acquire some
practical ideas, I need some appropriate stuff. Can I expect someone to
help me?

TestOut, http://www.testout.com/, has some good computer simulations for
doing various computer tasks on their study CDs. I used the hardware
TestOut and scored 827 on my Core Hardware Exam. I wish I'd have had
TestOut for the OS portion, I only used Mike Meyers AIO for that and scored
673. I thought the OS test was much harder, but then I've been fooling
with computer hardware for 20 years now so I've had a lot of experience
with it. The practice exams that come with the Mike Meyers AIO book are
good, and the book gives explanations for the questions you don't
understand. My OS test covered everything from Windows 95 to Windows XP
with most emphasis on Windows 2000 and XP.

Some of my actual test questions were at
http://www.passitnow.com/comptia.html, but you have to be careful there,
some answers they give are not correct. You can also find helpful info at
http://www.tomax7.com/aplus/index.htm. Another good site for learning is
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/.

Depending on how much you already know and how much you need to learn, you
may need more than just practice questions. IMO, a good instructional book
such as Mike Meyers All In One is a good starting point.

Good luck.

A+ book are useless. It doesn't help at all in passing the test. U'll just
end up wasting both time and money if u do. A+ books just tells you what you
probably already know and doesn't tell you the ones you need to know for the
exam..... Best way is to do this: Most local computer tech school provide
actual questions and answers to their students but they rip you off too so what
you need to do is this. Just goto a local technical school, find out what time
the A+ class ends, you wait outside and get a hold of one of the students and
tell him you'll give him hundred bucks in exchange for a copy of floppy with
actual questions and test. That floppy will contain exact questions and
answers for the actual exam. And u'll be able to pass each test in 1.5 minute,
like me. That is the best way.

I see the Troll is back. He was too stupid to actually LEARN the stuff, so
he advises buying a cheat disk. However, I attended a Technical School and
we had to actually LEARN the stuff, I didn't get a cheat disk with the
questions and answers. But, then I wouldn't have wanted to pass like that
anyhow, since I do have a degree of integrity.

Hmmmm, last time he said he finished in 1 minute. Now, it's 1.5. Not sure
anyone could just plain read 80-100 questions in 1.5 minutes let alone
answer them too. You have to click around a bit on the screen. Sounds to
me like he never did take the test at all.

A hundred bucks to put a testking pdf on a floppy? I'm not even going
to get into the whole "braindumps are for idiots" morality debate...that
right there is just *** stupid. It's pretty easy to get ahold of
that *** for free. I'd think a real "A+ certified professional" would
realize that, but then again, you braindumped your way to an elementary
certification, so you likely don't know ***.

It took me over 1.5 minutes to realize the mouse was not a foot pedal.
I then had the test computer all apart. I didn't know the test was
supposed to be taken ON the computer. :)

LOL. I actually didn't have an urge to take the computer apart, but what
is it about these places? They have all these computers with CRT monitors
lined up. The test is on a white screen. No one knows how to set the
screen refresh rate so the screen doesn't flicker like crazy. Now granted,
I may be more sensitive to screen flicker than a lot of people are, but the
flicker nearly drove me crazy. If I could have gotten to a plain desktop,
I would have taken the extra time to fix it.

Yep, same here. I complain about the refresh rate now before I even
sit down. They always have it set at 60Hz which is the same rate as
the flourescent lights in the room. Because the screen and the lights
are at the same frequency, but not sync'd, you get a very bad flicker
effect on the screen. I tell them I want it at 75 or 85Hz and no
less, unless they are willing to let me drink a bottle of J.D. while
I'm taking the test, that way I won't notice the flicker.

Even without flourescent lights, I will see flicker at 60Hz. My daughter,
on the other hand, doesn't notice it. I always change her refresh when I
go visit and use her computer. I love the people who tell me after I've
fixed the refresh rate, "Wow! That looks so much better, what did you do?"

Its to their benefit if you fail the test, so little things like that
are done to distract you. Just like in the military, several tests were
given with poor lighting, background noise, and in one case, the
instructor and his buddy talking and telling dirty jokes while you were
to copy Morse code.

As far as flicker, a failing fluorescent lamp can trigger a migraine
that lasts for days. I had to fight with plant maintenance to fix bad
lights around my bench. We caught his store room open one day and
grabbed cases of 8' tubes and relamped the whole test area. Over half
the tubes were dead or flickering, and we only had a couple left when we
finished. Boy, was he pissed off! ;-)

Although I am pursuing a different certification, i.e MCSD but I from
my latest experiences can well understand that only cramming from brain
dumps will not help. Ultimately if an employer hires you he would
expect you to be efficient enough to handle problems. I feel the most
important aspect is study hard from a good book and then opt for some
practice questions. I did and this helped me to clear my exams. I had
MS press books but also had ucertify simulations. A few questions
seemed exactly similar to those I had earlier practiced. So practicing
questions not only helped me to develop some ideas about the exam but
at the same time my confidence grew by leaps and bounds.

Don't attribute to malice what is most likely incompetence. Unless you
are a tech AND sensitive to flicker, you most likely are clueless about
its effects.

Anyway, the worst one I saw was a test center with 19-inch monitors,
sitting on top of the computers. The chairs were very low, making for a
great case of neck strain. Then, the text size was so small that very
few questions wrapped to a second line, making the dang things near
impossible to read.

The operator of the center was very proud of their setup, but I clearly
explained how these issues would prevent me from ever coming back, and
that she should let me know when they were fixed so I would recommend
the center to others. The facility was very nice otherwise, quiet,
comfortable, and good indirect incandescent lighting.

I agree, I don't think they're trying to make you fail. I know that I am
very sensitive to screen flicker, but when I tell my daughter about it, she
asks, "What flicker?" Some people are just more sensitive than others.
That's a fact. I suppose if I take a test there again, I might mention it
to them. It didn't bother me enough to make me fail, I passed both A+
tests with good scores. But it was a bit uncomfortable for me.

Other than the screen flicker, the facility (Prometric) I tested at was
also very nice. Professional and quiet. The chairs were comfortable
enough although I tend to, how should I put this, get "home" comfortable in
them (feet up on the chair seats, spread out all over the place). Since I
can't sit still or in one position for a long time, I tend to "readjust"
myself all over the place. The monitor screen height was good, comparable
to what I have at home. The text size was very easy to read, even for my
54-year-old eyes. I'm glad I was in the testing room by myself both times,
since I tend to mumble out loud when I'm reading the questions. wink I can't
complain about anything other than the screen flicker which may not bother
most people anyhow.
