I'm glad to see that there are women in this business, Hi Patti.
Congradulations to everyone passing your test.
I'm just starting my A+, well actually I started last fall. I took a
class at my local college and I just wasn't comfortable taking the Cert
yet. I need more, any suggestions? I thought about a video CD type of
thing.
I know just read, but I'm a very visual type of person and need hands
on.

I've looked into A+ at Career Academy
http://www.careeracademy.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=12
They include Net+,and they seam pretty good.

Someone has Learnkey on ebay for 35 bucks, I'm a little leary about
this though.

And Patti you used Testout for your core software, do you still have
it?

I used TestOut for the core hardware, not software, I wish I'd had it for
the software, it was really helpful. No, I don't have it anymore, it was
on loan from my school.

While the LearnKey was good, I think I got more out of the TestOut, but for
20 bucks, I'd go for the LearnKey too.

I'm thinking of doing an online study through my Community College for my
Net+, it's put on by Ed2Go,
http://www.ed2go.com/cgi-bin/ed2go/newofferings.cgi?dept=CC, haven't done
any of their online courses, but the price is right, only $99 for the
course. You can find a list of participating schools at
http://www.ed2go.com/partners2.html.

Good luck.

Hi Liz,

I have both A+ courses from TestOut. I purchased the entire suite a
few months ago, and it wasn't cheap.
If you are interested, I will sell them for $400 compared to their
$695.
I also have the Network+ and Security+ for $250 each.
And soon, Linux+ for $250.

IMHO the best reference book series on A+ is written by a woman --
Jean Andrews... http://tinyurl.com/f4c8x ... I wouldn't have passed
the Exams without her!

Reading is necessary for the "names and dates"-type questions (e.g.
"What socket type does a Pentium III use?"). But for all the practical
questions, hands-on is much better than reading and memorizing. I know
I did poorest on questions about laser printers, because I had never
repaired or even had access to one before I was certified.

Have you considered building your own PC system? -- That's about as
"hands on" as you can get! (It's also very empowering!)

Liz,

I called TestOut for another reason last week and I did ask about any
updates for my current library. They said I have the most up to date
versions.

Yes, they are probably the most recent until TestOut gets their training
updated for the newest objectives. You may have wanted to ask how long
that was going to be. If Liz doesn't take her test until after December,
your TestOut may not be the best training for her since it's based on the
2003 Objectives, not the 2006 (which TestOut has not released yet).

Liz, if you've already taken one class and just need to have learning aids,
you may be able to pass the 2003 objectives exams, unless you want to wait
and test for the new objectives. I've heard that the Mike Meyers AIO for
the 2006 objectives will not be released until sometime in December.

Yes you are right, I guess I'm not really sure If I will be ready by
then.
Well Thanks John anyways, I'll have to think about it.

No problem.

The TestOut A+, Network+ and Security+ are now listed on eBay if you
change your mind.

Correction, these items are no longer available on eBay as TestOut has
some kind of funky license that states the CDs cannot be resold. I
guess if I want to sell them, I will have to do it any place but eBay.

I'm sorry John, that really sucks.
