I have HP Pavilian a700n. My CD ROM is samsung cdrw/dvd drive. The
problem with my cd is it quit working and the error in device manager
is "windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but
cannot find the hardware device." Its error code 41. How should I fix
the problem? |

Replace the CD drive with a DVD burner. You can get a "do everything"
DVD burner (even with Lightscribe) for about $40. My preference is
Pioneer, but they don't have lightscribe.

Check and replace your IDE cables first, but I agree with Barry. Just
buy a new drive with new cables. HP uses really cheap and low quality
cdwriters on there pc's. You can't really fix them just replace them.

Long and short: what these folks are trying to say is, the message probably
means that the drive itself has failed. Time to get a new one...
