2003 SP1 Install from Windows update

Last night I ran Windows update to install Server 2003 SP1. All seemed to be
going well. I did get one message which is as follows:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\symmpi.sys
Your computer vendor installed this file on your computer.
Do you want Service Pack 1 Setup to replace this file?

I answered no
installation continued fine...

Installation failure
Error Code: 0xD0000005
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources.

After seeing this message I checked the event log and found this:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Date: 7/3/2007
Time: 1:08:58 AM
User: N/A

Description:

There were some other updates that had been "automatically downloaded" from
windows update so I installed those and rebooted the server.

I did a properties on my computer and it shows that I am running SP1 now.
It is also in add remove programs.
