I have a Internet Domain name it is golden-computers.net and I would like to
use it for my Windows 2003 server domain name, can I do this? Is this a good
idea? If so why? If not why not ? How do I do this when I set up Windows
2003 server? John |

Yes, many people do.

Maybe not -- it has some minor problems. You will need to setup "Shadow
DNS"
and so maintain your internal and external DNS manually anyway.
Also, you internal users will not be able to use the form: "domain.com" but
will
have to use (something like) www.domain.com since all of the DCs register
the
bare name and that interferes with the bare domain name ONLY for INTERNAL
users. Works fine for those outside.

Install Windows Server -- do a DCPromo and let it setup your DNS for
you at the same time.
IF you use the same name internally, you will also have to ADD the external
records to the internal DNS server manually.
Configure EVERY Internal DNS client (including DCs and DNS servers) to
use ONLY the "Internal DNS server" on the NIC->IP Properties.

Quick Question:
|
Can I use this to authenticate Users? SO they have to logon to the server to
access the Internet? I would much rather make it so people have to access
the Internet that way instead of directly.
