Hello,

I have just ran dcpromo on one of my DC's to move it from being a domain
controller. The first time I ran dcpromo it failed because the NETLOGON
service timed out. I ran dcpromo again and it worked. I also uninstalled DNS
from this same machine. Server was W2K3 SP1.

I had to delete the old server object from AD Sites and Services. I noticed
there were and few DNS records hanging around for the old DC and wondered if
this was normal or if I should remove them manually. They are...

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> DomainDNSzones (there is an A
record for the old DC

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> DomainDNSzones --> _Sites -->
Default-First-Site-Name --> _tcp (there is a SRV record for the old server)

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> DomainDNSzones --> _tcp (there is
a SRV record for the old DC

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> ForestDNSzones (there is an A
record for the old DC

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> ForestDNSzones --> _Sites -->
Default-First-Site-Name --> _tcp (there is a SRV record for the old server)

Forward Lookup Zones --> <domainname> --> ForestDNSzones --> _tcp (there is
a SRV record for the old DC

Thanks

Hi doubleH,

You should be able to manually pull these records from the DNS. Just be
careful not to pull things referencing other servers. You may also want to
stop and restart the netlogon service on your new DC to ensure that all of
its srv records are correct.

Cheers,
