I often find the need to transfer or copy data from other computers.
Examples would be dead computers where the hard drive is still functional or
older computers such as Windows 98 that do not have USB 2.0 or LAN network
adapters.
I have a device from Rosewill RCW-605 that I currently use. It makes it so
easy to transfer data eliminating the need to remove the hard drive from the
old computer and in instances on site where the user has only an older
desktop and a new laptop that needs the data transfered to.

It works most the time but once in a while it does not read a known good
drive including one of my IBM Deskstar 75G. Either the drives I can not
access will show in Disk Management as healthy but with no file system type
or drive letter listed, or it will not show at all though Device Manager
recognizes that there is USB storeage attached. When everything works well
the disk is read right away and the brand/model number shows in Device
Manager under disk drives as USB mass storeage. It has worked with hard
drives formatted in both NTFS and FAT32/16.
So I was wondering if maybe any of you have used a similar device but one
that maybe is better at reading most any hard drive that you have ever
attached to it including older hard drives that would be found in Windows 98
type computers.
Thanks Steve |

Using a comparable device (Sitecom CN330) I find that some drives
need to be stapped as CableSelect to get them recognized.
(Well, at least it is easy to try :-)
