Hi,
I just was given a project to add a branch office to an existing
network(which was created by someone else)
This is not somethign I have done before, so these are probably very
basic questions. I would apreciate any input or advice !
Right now there are two offices on the network, I am adding a third.
all three are in different cities.
All three will consist of a 2003 DC, and about 10 - 15 workstations at
each location.
I have connected all three offices via SonicWall pointotpoint VPN
tunnels.
The two existing sites DC's are both using the domain 'company.int'
The server at the third site was setup previously but never put on the
network, (has been in a closet basicly collecting dust) but it was
setup with the domain name of 'something.anothercompany.com'
I know the domain had to be changed,
So the first thing I did was use dcpromo to demote it.
I then added the third city as a new site in AD of one of the existing
sites, added the subnet, and the site link.
Now I think I have to run dcpromo again on the server to actualy put
it on the domain, but im stuck at this point.
In AD install wizard, i am at the 'Domain Controller Type' screen, I
have to be honest Im not sure which option to pick at this point. Am I
creating a new child domain, or joining an existing domain?
Also my other question, which I'm no so sure I can do anythign about
at this point is: Is it OK to have all 3 DCs use the company.int
domain in this setup? Or should I have one site be company.int, then
have city2.company.int and city3.company.int?
Sorry for the newb questions. and Thank you for the help! |
