I need to remove a child domain and found a note stating that you should move
all FSMO roles to a single DC that is in the child domain. That is a little
unclear to me. We have a root domain, a parent domain, and a child domain.
The FSMO roles are as follows when using the netdom cmd netdom query
/domain:hbg.pcore.com fsmo:

Schema owner ROOT1.pcroot.net
Domain role owner ROOT1.pcroot.net
PDC role hbgsecdc.hbg.pcore.com
RID pool manager hbgsecdc1.hbg.pcore.com
Infrastructure owner DALSECDC.hbg.pcore.com

pcroot is the root domain, pcore is the parent domain, and hbg.pcore.com is
the child domain I want to remove. Based on the instructions I should move
all these FSMO roles to a single DC in the child domain and run dcpromo on
all DCs for the child domain and then run dcpromo on the FSMO holder, holding
all the FSMO roles above for the hbg.pcore.com domain last.

my concern is that I by moving the FSMO roles to a single server in the
child domain and then removing that DC there will be some adverse affects on
the root or parent domain. Am I correct in thinking that the FSMO roles for
the child domain are completely seperate from any of the other domains? In
other words does the Schema owner ROOT1.pcroot.net for the hbg.pcore.com a
separate instance of the Schema owner ROOT1.pcroot.net for the parent domain
and root domain?

thank you,
