I have a 2003 SP1 application server that is very unhappy right now... (It
has been running for about two years without any incident, and there has been
no changes other than Windows Updates.)

When booting up the server, I now get the message that says at least one
service failed to start, and I should check the event log... However, all of
the event logs fail to display because my Event Log service will not run.

When I look at my services, I have a large number that will not start. Most
complain that the dependency service or group failed to start. If I view the
properties of the service and try to look at the dependency tab, I again get
the message that the dependency service or group failed to start, otherwise
no dependency services are listed.

The services that are failing are:

COM+ Event System
Computer Browser
DDEmgr Datasource
Distributed File System
Event Log
File Replication Service
Logical Disk Manager Client Services
Net Logon
Offline Processing Service
Performance Logs and Alerts
Print Spooler
Protected Storage
Remote Connection
Server
System Event Notification
Task Scheduler
Windows Management Instrumentation
Windows Task Manager
Time
Workstation

I can only assume that I have a problem with one of the above services that
in turn is causing the rest to fail. (domino effect?) However, since I do
not have an Event log to view, I have no idea which service to start working
on first. Any advice on where to start (other than reload the OS).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
