|
|
Hi,
I have a local domain with two domain controllers. I want to add about
50 computers at another location that are linked by a VPN so I am
planning on putting a domain controller at the remote end of the VPN.
Should I set up the server locally, promote it, then move it and change
its IP address, or set up the server, move it, then join it to the
domain from the remote end of the VPN and promote it? Or another way?
TIA for advice. (Domain controllers are Win2k3 and clients are XP.) |

Jim,
I just did it the 2nd way. I may have joined the domain at the main site as
a member server, not sure now, but I did promote it at the remote site. I
did it across a site to site hardware VPN, T1 on one side, cable on the
other. I was a bit concerned about how it would go, but it was fine. WINS
& DNS consoles are a little slower to refresh. I was very surprised with
how easy it was, go for it!
